The arms race did not end after the collapse of the Soviet Union. India and Pakistan, a stone’s throw away from each other, carry on to demonstrate the relevancy of sustaining a self-destructive arsenal of weapons to protect each of their interests in the region. These countries are spending a huge chunk of their fiscal budget procuring weapons and bolstering up their military in a near-constant tension each day.

Military spending in this region is the highest, with each respective government gearing towards armageddon as the years go by. There seems to be a bottomless pocket for billions expended to upgrade and maintain a pricey military ready to spring into combat in an instant. It looks as if finance is never a problem for both of this once unified countries. Their spending now borders on the absurd as each of them throw away more prominent and larger budget on each passing year showing to the other side it is military might.

For instance, Pakistan expended $300 billion for the duration of 2008-2009 upgrading it is defense capabilities. The following year saw around $350 billion expended on defense. That was never sufficient though. Before the closing of that year, the country added another $35 billion due to the demands of the military chiefs. That makes a staggering amount of almost $400 billion expended on military upgrades. In a country plagued by poverty and growing terrorism, this kind of spending is insane.

On the other side of the sub-continent saw the same crazy percentage of resources. India does not want to just concede it is neighbor get the upper hand. Last year saw the biggest deal amid India and the US when the former acquired with regards to 10 C-17 Globemaster-IIIs. These giant strategic birds cost around $2.2 billion. Each of these aircrafts may carry 170,000 pounds in payload and may transport both tanks and men for over 2000 miles. Since it may be refueled in mid-air, it is reach is only fixed by pilot fatigue. Aside from this purchase, India also purchased 8 Boeing P8l aircrafts for long-range over-the-water surveillance and reconnaissance. Added to these are 6 C-130Js, likewise known as Super Hercules, to beef up India’s lift capability but at a cost of another $1 billion in taxpayer’s money. Together with this deal was the $1 billion buy of 197 Eurocopters for light utility missions and the $1.5 billion budget for 6 Airbus-330 MRTT applied as mid-air refueling planes. The spending does not end there as the country plans to buy another 126 medium multi-role fighters for the Indian Air Force that may go around$10.4 billion. India procures it is military hardware from all over–the US, Russia, Brazil, Europe, even Israel.

With over 1.3 million military personnel on active responsibility anytime, India is considered one of the greatest standing army in the world. Pakistan, obviously, does not want to be left out as it tries to keep pace by allocating huge amount of resources on military defense. Although both countries are comparatively young, their bitter history was devised out of a bloody struggle with each other. Politics news in the region may only say too much as both of these nuclear powers engages in innumerable duels over the years. Unfortunately, both of these countries are likewise embroiled in poor economic instability and extreme poverty. Their costly military spending may fetch both of them nowhere.

The C-17 is applied for rapid strategic airlift of troops and cargo to main operating bases or forward operating bases all around the world. It has the capacity to quickly deploy a combat unit to a potential battle area and sustain it with on-going supplies. 5So it’s not a 1/48 C-17
By Thomas G. Izbrand
Sorry, I have to laugh at the reviews that state they thought it was 1/48 scale! Seriously, a 1/48 C-17 for $30? This is a 1/144 kit and it is huge! There is a great deal of detail and it is pretty exact to the real thing. It has a finish cargo bay with optional position doors. Just need a heap of 1/144 instrumentation to load it up. By the way, as a real military load planner, this is one of the easiest aircraft to load, it’ll haul just in regards to anything and is very forgiving.

The detail is fine for the scale, do not forget you won’t see alot of smaller, real life details just because it would be closely inconceivable to mold them. But this is an exact representation of the aircraft and will fit your collection of 1/144 cargo or bomber models just fine. As for price, I see alot of complaints when it comes to it. Consider this however, a similar kit in resin is almost three times the cost! And this is a elaborated model you may assemble with plastic model cement, the resin kits need alot of work as well as superglue to get them together. Again consider the size of the kit you are getting, for the price it is in truth a deal. It is basically a foot long by a foot wide wing tip to wing tip. That alot of plastic and engineering. In 1/48 scale that would be almost 3.6 feet! Just the box would weigh a ton to hold the kit, where would you put it?

Fit and finish was great. No real problems, no flash on the sprue’s but there are a few ejector pin marks that I necessitated to fix. Most persons wouldn’t detect but I look. The only real issue is the decals. I’m not fond of Revell-Monograms decals though I’ve been competent to make them work before. Definitely went with aftermarket ones for ease, but the kit ones will be fine for most.

3Wait… it’s a 1:144 scale? and for $40?!
By Niki R.
I purchased this kit back in January and initially, (and I guess this is the funny part) I thought it was a 1:48 scale kit. Why did I come to this conclusion? because when I did a search for 1:48 scale kits, this came up and also all of my C-130s and B-1Bs (which are 1:48 scale) were all within the $40 to $50 price range.

So lets get started things off this way… This is a review for a 1:144 scale Revell-Germany (made in Poland) model of a C-17 Globemaster III. Overall, the kit is good. Details are as to be expected when dealing with a 1:144 scale model. Cargo ramps are positionable, LG bay is ok and so are the engine nacelles.

I’ll give it a three star to be fair, but I sincerely think it is rather pricey for a 1:144 scale kit.

2not as advertized
By Jim’s old timers rush
This plane is listed beneath 1/48 scale , but it is 1/144. an old guy like me can,t build a 1/144. Its to small. And when you return it, if you applied a credit card they won’t give you a credit so you may buy another right now No, they want you to wait 10 days for the refund to show up on your c.c., but if your on a VERY tight buget like me, you don’t have any more cash to spend on models for awhile, and now I don’t have anything else to do because I have a very hard time breathing, and sitting and building models is regarding all I may do. O WELL, THANKS for listening Jim
