Perfect for those who love to skate, the Roller Derby V500 Men’s Adjustable Inline Skate offers performance and ease with an adaptable boot to accommodate multiple sizes.

With jammers, blockers and pivots, it sounds more like American Football than roller skating; but the sport of Roller Derby is fast growing in popularity all over the world. Although played by some males, the sport is overshadowed by females, and the culture that surrounds it goes further than just the Derby, but encompasses fashion, friendship and showmanship (or must that be show-womanship?) as much as the contest itself.

Like other more substitute sports such as skateboarding, Roller Derby comes with a whole image, and is as much with regards to show as it is skill. Players dress in fishnet stockings, pop socks, hot pants and a helmet, and team-player nicknames such as ‘Metal Momma’, ‘Cherry Bomber’ and ‘Sister Sledgehammer’ are a must.

The sport has been described as the perfective combining of femininity and violence, and the fact that Roller Derby is eclipsed by feisty females has made it a magnet for galore male fans. Like female mud wrestling, there is a sure attraction of looking at the girls get rough with each other, and players have described themselves as being “tough and skull cracking, but sexy at the same time”.

The term ‘Roller Derby’ may been traced back to as far as 1922, when it was applied by a local paper to describe an event kept in an old warehouse behind a hotel in Chicago, that hosted the introductory known flat track multi-day roller skating races. However, this event was very dissimilar to what is called Roller Derby today and bears few correspondings other than the name.

The sport has also been praised for helping women to become more confident, and increase their self respect by getting them involved in a powerful, all girl environment. The Roller Derby scene is likewise almost linked with the music scene, with bands often performing before and after the action, and Derby Girls are known for enjoying a good party after the game. Part of it is popularity has been attributed to it is nostalgic appeal for women in their late 20s and 30s who may still do not forget roller-skating discos of the past. Others are the type of girls who were never fascinated in volleyball or cheerleading, but are attracted by the skater-punk persona of a Roller Girl.

Though born in Chicago, Roller Derby has since disseminate it wings far and wide, with leagues popping up all over the world, in Japan, Australia and the UK; there are even rumours circulating of a new Roller Derby movie starting Drew Barrymore in the making, proving that it is popularity is more than a passing fad.

4Stretchable Skates?
By RCAV8TOR
An inline skate that increments in size? What a novel concept. I was skeptical with regards to this assert when I was researching inline skates for my 12 year old stepdaughter for Xmas.

4great price, outstanding fit
By annec
I purchased these roller blades principally for the price. i have not rollerbladed in with regards to 10 years so i wanted to give it a try without spending a lot of cash in case i was not up to the challenge. I wear a ladies shoe size 7 1/2 ordinarily and i did not need to adjust the blades at all, they fit like a glove. The clamps are a little awkward to adjust but once you get the hang of it, they are okay. The ride was smooth depending on the pavement. The only thing i did not like was that the blades only have one brake on the right shoe. I showed my blades to galore women at work and they wanted to buy them as well. I would highly reccomend these for people who want to try the sport and never purchased a pair before. If you are a pro, you may want to get something more expensive.

5Good skates for older beginner
By Reynolds
Looking for a pair of skates for our 12 year old, we wanted something that was easy to wear yet was not a kiddy product. We wanted a nice, comfortable pair of skates that she could learn on but would not outgrow immediately. These have proven to be a outstanding buy for her.

The skates are easy sufficient to put on and take off, yet provide good support. Our daughter has not complained of any fatigue or pain from the skates and has expended rather a lot of time in them in the month she has had them. She loves the purple color combo and thinks they are cool, with a large total of compliments from her friends. At 12 you can not be seen wearing anything juvenile, you know.

Overall, we are all very pleased with the skates and would commend them to any individual looking for a reasonable priced entry-level pair of quality skates.
